A Traditional Seafood Restaurant in the Heart of Little Saigon

Tan Kim Su Seafood Restaurant sits in the heart of Westminster’s Little Saigon district, an area known for its dense concentration of long established eateries. The restaurant reflects a traditional approach to dining that prioritizes shared dishes, family style meals, and recipes that have remained largely unchanged over the years. The atmosphere is lively and functional rather than polished, appealing to guests who value substance over trend driven design.

Many regulars describe the restaurant as an old school dim sum style seafood destination. The dining room often feels busy and energetic, especially during peak hours, which adds to the authentic feel. Servers move quickly, balancing efficiency with a friendly tone that longtime patrons have come to expect.

Menu Philosophy and Culinary Style

The menu at Tan Kim Su Seafood Restaurant focuses on Cantonese seafood traditions while incorporating Vietnamese favorites that resonate with the local community. Cooking techniques lean toward steaming, frying, and quick wok preparations that allow seafood to remain the focal point of each dish. Sauces are bold but familiar, designed to complement rather than overpower the ingredients.

Rather than chasing novelty, the kitchen emphasizes consistency. This approach has earned loyalty from diners who know exactly what they want and return for those specific flavors. The menu offers a wide range of choices, making it suitable for large groups with varied preferences.

Signature Dishes That Define the Experience

Several dishes have become closely associated with Tan Kim Su Seafood Restaurant due to frequent praise from guests. Steamed Shrimp Ball is a standout for dim sum lovers, offering a tender texture and clean shrimp flavor. Fried Lobster is another popular choice, often ordered for special meals and shared at the table.

Kung Pao Scallops brings a familiar spice profile with a seafood twist, while Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce provides a simple, balanced vegetable option. Bake Egg Custard is often chosen as a comforting finish, especially for diners who appreciate classic Cantonese desserts.

Vietnamese influenced plates such as Bo Luc Lac and Cá Lưỡi Trâu Chiên Giòn add depth to the menu and reflect the restaurant’s cultural roots. Seafood Soup with Tofu and Hot and Sour Soup are frequently ordered as starters, valued for warmth and hearty flavor. Dim sum staples like Chicken Feet, Beef Tripe, and Pan Fried Turnip Egg Cake appeal to guests who enjoy traditional offerings.

Service Style and Dining Atmosphere

What Guests Appreciate Most

Many reviews highlight very delicious food paired with dependable service. Diners often mention the comfort of returning to a place that feels familiar and dependable. The old school dim sum style resonates strongly with guests who grew up dining in similar establishments or who seek an authentic experience rather than a modern reinterpretation.

Seafood quality and portion sizes are frequently discussed, especially for shared plates like lobster and fish dishes. Items such as fish kho to and fried calamari are commonly ordered for group meals, reinforcing the restaurant’s role as a gathering place.

Balanced Perspective on Value and Pricing

While Tan Kim Su Seafood Restaurant receives praise for flavor and tradition, some guests feel that certain dishes are priced higher than expected for the quality delivered. This perspective appears most often in discussions around premium seafood plates. For diners sensitive to value, this is an important consideration when planning a visit.

At the same time, many regulars feel that the experience, portion sizes, and familiarity justify the cost, especially when dining with family or celebrating occasions. Understanding this balance helps set realistic expectations and allows guests to choose dishes that best match their preferences.

Who Will Enjoy Dining Here

Tan Kim Su Seafood Restaurant is well suited for diners who appreciate traditional Cantonese and Vietnamese seafood cuisine. Families, multi generational groups, and guests seeking classic dim sum style dishes will likely feel at home. Those looking for trendy plating or modern fusion may find the experience less aligned with their tastes.

For anyone exploring Westminster’s seafood dining scene, Tan Kim Su Seafood Restaurant represents a long standing option that continues to serve the community with consistency and cultural authenticity.

What customers say about us

The food is not overly salty with msg but just have the perfect touch. The restaurant is spacious but parking is kinda small and I know there is parking in the back but still hard to fit people if there was a party here. I didnt get to try there dim sum so I can not attest to that.

Of one of the original dim sum spots of Westminster/OC, it continues to stay strong in serving their customers. The dim sum is good, but their main menu has great dishes. The soft shell crab dish, and their house fried noodles are delicious. There is one particular waiter that my party liked, who was very friendly, speaks multiple languages and was very attentive to our needs. Will definitely come again when I want a convenient place for dimsum.

A must try if you come to Cali. I came in for the lobster noodle and it didn’t disappoint. Waiter was very honest with how much the lobster weighed. We ask for a 4 pound lobster and they only had 3.5 pounds lobster. They could have charged us 4 pounds for a 3.5 pound but instead he came out and told us he only had 3.5 pounds left. Highly recommend this place.

I ate here and I I flew 2,500 miles from Orlando, FL to Westminster, CA on a business trip and after 2 delays at LAX I finally got home at 2AM and I just woke up and had to tell everyone if you're in town remember to stop by Tan Kim Su on the corner of Bolsa Ave and Ward St! Seeing the large selection of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Korean restaurants in Westminster/Garden Grove is dizzying. In Orlando we're only a 3 mile strip. Over there from Brookhurst to Bolsa it seems every intersection has 4 corners and 4 strip malls to eat the 4 major Vietnamese categories: banh mi, banh cuon, pho, and ca phe. A lot of them are humble and low key. There is a low key mom and pop charm associated with eating the plain 2010s wood interior with a slightly sticky floor, mismatched ceiling panels, haphazardly painted ceiling speakers, dusty television sets and window frames that haven't been dusted in who knows how long. You will find many of those places but you can just not find an experience like Tan Kim Su. Big, spacious. grand, white. Luxury. Amazing crab and lobster tank view. The fried rice was amazingly crisp. The egg noodles were very fresh. It was very clean tasting compared to most places. It was busy noisy and lively! I came specifically Sunday December 14 around 12:00pm in Cali time. There was a line out the door. I worked restaurants before the pandemic. Some people will down vote your restaurant both if they think you have too few customers and especially if you have a lot of customers! If the sight of a packed, noisy, and busy restaurant scares you more than an empty one, there is probably nothing I can say to convince you. But look at the pictures this place was packed and alive and people are out having the time of their life with the mountains of food on the tables. If you like piece and quiet, maybe not at the hour I went. Look at the line of the door. People want to be here. And I can see why. They certainly aren't in line to ask talk about their 401ks on a Sunday. And to top it off the owner in red came by our table to make sure everything was going well and it was with our group and associates. I watched she was working there alongside the staff, bussing, moving plates, even serving. She was energetic and charming as expected of any successful hospitality business owner. I once read in a book: people who treat you like they were expecting you/ready for you/waiting for you are the people you want to be around. I could go on but I won't. But I could. Let me just end with this, if you are in the Westminster area on weekend travel like myself, time and food are precious. Each day you are probably not going to visit more than 3 restaurants (except many dessert places like che or ice cream or smoothie). If you are going to eat somewhere, make it worth it. It's not even that far from Phuoc Loc Tho and instead of eating street food in a gloomy tiny food court with weird drifters talking to themselves you could be enjoying life to its fullest. Thank you for ending off our now memorable business trip to Westminster, Tan Kim Su Seafood Restaurant located on 10530 Bolsa Ave, Westminster, CA 92683.
